Quiqsine is a conceptual online food-ordering and meal delivery service that allows users to order customized meals. It’s a service that provides modern solutions to busy working professionals to help them reduce their burdens on grocery shopping and food preparation, and enables them to simply enjoy in cooking fresh meals everyday.

According to quantitative and qualitative research with people who prepare meals at home at least 4-6 times a week, most people value home cooking for several reasons. Some stated that they are concerned with the ingredients restaurants use. They often question about how fresh the ingredients are, are the food MSG free, what oil are used in the food, etc. They also question the sanitation of the kitchen and the utensils they use. Few other interviewees mentioned that cooking is meditative and relaxing, it’s one of their sources of entertainment from a long day of work. Another group of interviewees said that cooking serves as a relationship bonding activity in their families. With all the penetration of technologies and other distractions from the modern society, cooking allows them to leave these distractions behind, and enjoy the moment of fun and joyful human interactions with their families.

However, despite how much people love to cook at home, in reality, most people in the interviews said that they often eat out at restaurants or choose to go with the “easy way” – canned foods and pre-made meals. One of the main reasons is simply the fact that cooking is a time consuming effort. Modern work schedules and commutes often consume more than 50% of people’s time. And if we account for bedtime and other activities such as entertainments and exercises, cooking really becomes a burden with a considerably high opportunity cost. On the other hand, although there are modern technologies/services such as Blue Apron or HelloFresh that provides partial solutions to the problem, most of the interviewees thought that these services are not flexible for their appetite. Another critical problem I concluded is that a lot of food wastes are produced from expired or rotten ingredients people didn’t have a chance to use. In this project, I came up with solutions that help with these problems.
